National Development Plan - Ireland

LGCE is currently supplying all the FO cable for the high speed Fibre Optic Metropolitan Area Networks in Ireland which are built under the National Development Plan of the Irish government ( Regional Broadband Program). This has been the case since 2002.

The Irish government stresses that an improved telecommunications infrastructure is a critical component in the continuing development of e-commerce and in the attraction and retention of foreign direct investment in Ireland. It is also critical to the competitiveness of the industry. The Regional Broadband Program aims to establish broadband availability to many urban areas within Ireland through the construction of carrier-neutral, open access Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN).
The routes run in the proximity to the main hubs of service providers already present in each urban area for easy connectivity.

In the first phase 19 towns were involved in the plan, but in the mean time a much higher number of towns has been connected.
The fibre used in the network is a state of the art single mode fibre with low waterpeak attenuation according to ITU G652D, which warrants a huge bandwidth availability for high speed internet access throughout the MAN network.

LGCE is working closely together with a number of Irish installers, advisors and the government to realize the project in the most effective way.
