Power cable systems: low, medium & high voltage

From low-voltage distribution cables to (ultra) high-voltage and submarine systems up to 525 kV, LGCE supplies the full power portfolio, on- and offshore, AC and DC. For high-voltage and submarine systems we are the Dutch representative of LS Cable & System.

Low, medium & high voltage

The complete connection, end to end

Our portfolio runs from low-voltage distribution and installation cables to medium- and (ultra) high-voltage systems at the highest voltage levels, together with the corresponding joints and end closures, so we can deliver your entire connection. At very high voltages, assembly, installation and testing are handled by LS Cable to guarantee the full power system. As one of the world's largest cable manufacturers, LS Cable & System brings world-class technology in underground (ultra) high-voltage, submarine and superconducting cables.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What voltage levels can LGCE supply: LV, MV or HV?

LGCE supplies the full power cable portfolio: low-voltage (LV) distribution and installation cables, medium-voltage (MV) systems, and (ultra) high-voltage (HV) systems up to 525 kV. For high-voltage and submarine systems LGCE is the Dutch representative of LS Cable & System.

What is the difference between LV, MV and HV power cables?

Broadly: low voltage (LV) covers distribution and installation cables up to about 1 kV; medium voltage (MV) runs from roughly 1 kV to 52 kV for local and regional distribution; and high voltage (HV) covers transmission above 52 kV, up to 525 kV for the largest on- and offshore connections. Insulation, construction and testing requirements rise with the voltage class.

How do I select the correct power cable for my project?

The right cable depends on the voltage level, the power or current to be transmitted, the installation method (buried, in duct, in air or submarine), the route length and the environment. Share these details with our specialists and we help you specify the conductor, cross-section, insulation and accessories that fit your project.

When should aluminium conductors be used instead of copper?

Aluminium conductors are lighter and more cost-effective and are often chosen for larger cross-sections and longer distribution runs, while copper offers higher conductivity in a smaller cross-section and is preferred where space is limited or currents are high. The best choice depends on the load, route and installation conditions. Our specialists are happy to advise.

What information do you need to prepare a cable quotation?

To quote accurately we typically need the voltage level, the required power or current, the conductor material and cross-section (if known), the cable length and quantity, the installation method, and any accessories or services required. The more detail you can share, the faster and more precise our offer.

Can LGCE supply complete cable systems including accessories?

Yes. Alongside the cable itself LGCE supplies the matching joints, terminations and end closures for both GIS installations and outdoor terminations, so you receive a complete, compatible cable system from a single source.

Does LGCE provide installation supervision and testing services?

Yes. Beyond materials LGCE offers installation of the joints and closures we supply, supervision of cable laying, and SAT (site acceptance) testing of installed systems. At very high voltages, assembly, installation and testing are performed by LS Cable to guarantee the complete power system.

Does LGCE supply offshore and submarine cable systems?

Yes. LGCE supplies on- and offshore systems, including submarine and XLPE cables and GIS connections, and has contributed to major offshore export-cable projects in the North Sea such as Hollandse Kust Noord, Hollandse Kust West Alpha, Windpark Luchterduinen and Norther.

What standards do LGCE power cable systems comply with?

The power cable systems LGCE supplies are manufactured and type-tested by LS Cable to the relevant international standards for each voltage class (for example the applicable IEC and CENELEC/HD standards). The exact standards and type-test certificates depend on the product and voltage level and can be provided on request.

What are the typical lead times for LV, MV and HV cables?

Lead times depend on the voltage class, the cable construction and current production and stock availability. Standard LV and MV items are generally available quickly, while high-voltage and submarine systems are project-specific and planned in advance. Send us your requirement and timeline and we confirm the current lead time.

Who is LGCE's power cable manufacturer partner?

LGCE is the Dutch representative of LS Cable & System, a global manufacturer of high- and ultra-high-voltage cable systems, giving customers direct access to certified, large-scale power infrastructure.

Installation, supervision & testing

Beyond materials we offer installation work for the joints and closures we supply, supervision of cable laying, and SAT testing of installed cable systems, drawing on LS Cable's best-in-class technology for underground (ultra) high-voltage, submarine and superconducting cables.
